Chanting, Mantras, Toning, and Singing are all ways of adding vocalization to your meditations and can all add depth to the Healing and Connecting Effects/ Powers of Meditation . Breath connects us to the World and the Heavens.
“Mmmm,” “Ahhh,” and “Shhh” all carry different emotional content and effect, and are sounds we may use in everyday life. Yet adding the effects of breath and sound to our meditations can deepen our meditations in 3 important ways.
One, the use of breath connects our inner world to our outer world—it connects us to our environment, to our neighbors, and our God-Goddess-All-That -Is Spiritual Source. Many types of meditation ask you to focus on your breath because of this ability to accentuate connection.
Two, the combination of breath and sound as we vocalize creates a vibration within our bodies that we can learn to control to effectively massage our inner organs, balance and release emotions and energy, and neuro-electrically charge our body, chakras, and spirit.
And, three, many of the sounds and syllables used in chanting and toning have been used for centuries by many traditions, with sounds like “amen”, “allah”, and “om” being considered to be holy and sacred.
