Reiki, Energy Work, and Complimentary Health Care Practitioners Under Attack in Massachusetts!8/21/2016 Hidden within the this Massachusetts Bill to define further laws on Human-Trafficking is a proposal to regulate and license Alternative Health Care Workers and "Body Workers," including Reiki Practitioners and many other Energy Worker and Healing Disciplines.
Not only is it highly questionable to hide legislation about one issue within a bill concerning a different issue... but why are Complimentary Health Care Workers being lumped in the Human Trafficking--are we being accused of something? It doesn't seem rational--just sneaky! The National Health Freedom Action Committee and William Rand of the International Center for Reiki Training are very involved in opposing this issue. One question they raise is why does a discipline that "has no side effects and does not ever cause harm" need to be regulated? Concern is raised that licensing and regulation of these health care practitioners will lead to increased costs and demands that may chase many practitioners our of business, increase prices for consumers, and make it harder for clients to find practitioners. The following is a letter from William Rand of the International Center for Reiki Training for you to review, with links for further infomration and how to lobby opposition to this Bill: Reiki Threatened in Massachusetts August 15, 2016 Dear Reiki Practitioner/Teacher, A new legislative bill is threatening your ability to practice and teach Reiki in Massachusetts. This is Senate bill S2461. This bill links the practice of Reiki to the problem of human trafficking. This of course is a completely false idea but it is being used to create a strong emotional response against Reiki. If this bill passes, you will not be able to practice Reiki in MA without a state license. You will also be required to take 500 hours of classroom instruction from a nationally accredited school that has nothing to do with Reiki. This will be required even if you have received quality Reiki training and have been practicing for years. I have always said that the only practices that should be required to be licensed by the government are those that could cause harm to the client. Since Reiki cannot cause harm, there is no reason for Reiki to be licensed by the government. This bill is entirely irrational and a threat to the reasonable and healthy practice of Reiki. I strongly recommend that you oppose it and use every legal means at your disposal to stop it. Please read the linked documents that explain this bill in detail and provide a recommend course of action to stop the bill. Also, please forward this email and the document links to all your Reiki students, practitioner and Reiki friends in Massachusetts. Your help is appreciated. The people that make the laws should do their homework and understand that Reiki is not Body Work. It's all about money, the state wants more of it, through licensing. You don't need a license to practice Reiki, it is a mind/ spirit experience. It does not force the body in any way, so you don't need to know Anatomy Etc.
